Somewhere in the back end of this shop, in a field almost nobody reads, we had written the wrong word.
Product photos carry a line of text called alt text. It exists for screen readers, and for the moments when an image fails to load and something has to stand in for it. Ours said pet GPS tracker. The product description, an inch away on the same page, said Bluetooth. Both had been sitting there since June.
They are not the same thing, and the difference matters to anyone deciding whether to buy one.
A GPS tracker talks to satellites. It can tell you where your dog is when your dog is somewhere you are not — a different neighborhood, a different county. It generally needs a cellular subscription to do that, and it needs charging often.
A Bluetooth tracker does none of that. It talks to your phone, across a short distance. It is for the cat who is definitely inside the house and definitely not coming when called. It is for the ten minutes before a walk when the harness has gone missing along with the animal wearing it. Small, light, long battery, no monthly fee, no satellites.
Neither one is better. They solve different problems. But if you arrived believing you were buying the first and received the second, that would be our fault, and no return policy really fixes the feeling.
So the alt text now says Bluetooth. Five images, one word each.
It is a small correction, and we are writing a whole post about it, which may seem out of proportion. Here is why we think it is not. A shop this size does not have much to offer besides accuracy. We cannot compete on delivery speed or on catalog depth. What we can do is make sure that every number, every material, every claim on this site is one we would be willing to defend if you emailed and asked. The moment we let a word slide because it sounds more impressive — and GPS sounds more impressive — we have started trading on something we have not earned.
The pocket that holds a tracker is on two things we carry: the striped vest and cap, and the summer mesh version with the sun hat. That pocket is sized for a small Bluetooth tag. It has always been sized for a small Bluetooth tag. Now the words around it agree.
